Field notes
When a clinic beats a full audit
Not every question needs a two-week audit. Some need a sharp afternoon.
Choose a clinic when
- One path is clearly the problem (checkout, claims, onboarding).
- A release or campaign is inside ten days.
- Product, design, and support disagree about what people experience.
- You already have recordings and simply need a facilitated reading.
Our Critical Path Review Clinic exists for those moments. The deliverable is short on purpose: a two-page note and three changes ranked for the next sprint.
Choose an audit when
- Several paths interact (for example, renewal plus payment plus document upload).
- Leadership wants a written artefact for governance or vendors.
- You lack a shared definition of “good enough” session quality.
- You plan to measure again after changes with a pulse check.
The Session Quality Audit takes longer because the writing must survive without us in the room.
A practical tell
If you catch yourself saying “we just need everyone to see it,” book a clinic. If you catch yourself saying “we need this to travel to the board,” book an audit. Both are session quality analysis; the instrument changes with the audience.
